Part-time Bridge Pastor
“Pastor Z” was born in northwest Iowa and grew up in Holland, Michigan. He graduated from Hope College in his hometown with a BA degree in political science, business administration, and economics. He was transitioning to his post-college life in Washington, DC, when God re-directed him unexpectedly to seminary!! After completing a Master of Divinity degree at New Brunswick (NJ) Theological Seminary, he was ordained in 1981 to ministry in the Reformed Church in America, a close theological cousin of the PCUSA. He transferred to the PCUSA in 2002. Zomermaand has served seventeen churches since ordination, four installed pastor positions, and thirteen interim assignments. Along the way, he managed to earn a PhD degree in Christian Social Ethics from Drew University, Madison, NJ. He recently completed an interim position at First Presbyterian Church, Aiken, SC, and retired at the end of 2022. He and his wife, Patricia Tillou, now call Milwaukie, OR their home base. They have four adult children and three grandchildren, including a new granddaughter.
