The Agros team arrived safely and have provided a brief update on their first few hours in country.
Since our arrival last night, we have had heavy rainstorms, which is unusual during this time of year, considered the dry season. Due to the higher levels of rainfall, the coffee crop has ripened ahead of schedule and the community is scrambling to harvest as quickly as possible, and our team had the chance to help in the fields this morning. We were told that in times when the harvest falls behind, the larger families help those with fewer members to gather all of the crop in time.
We also spent time visiting families, learning about projects to diversify and stabilize their agricultural production (selling lettuce to a large national market), and making crafts and singing songs with the kids in the schoolhouse.
Here are some photos of the coffee harvest.
